Nearer is built to know as little about you as possible. Because the app has no message field, there is almost nothing to store — Nearer never sees what you needed to talk about. This policy explains the little we do handle, and why.
Who we are
Nearer (“we”, “us”) is provided by [Legal name / sole proprietor], based in [Country]. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [privacy@your-domain]. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for the information described below.
What we collect
- Email address. To create your account and sign you in. Authentication is handled by our provider, Supabase.
- Pairing information. The fact that your account is linked to one partner’s account, and the one-time invite code used to connect you.
- Signal metadata. The urgency tag, the emotion tag, timestamps, and the status of each signal (open, closed, or cancelled). No free text is ever collected, because the app has no place to enter any.
- Push notification token (only if you enable notifications). A device identifier used solely to deliver a notification when a signal becomes visible.
- Basic technical data. When your app connects to our servers, standard information such as an IP address is processed by our infrastructure provider to operate and secure the service.
What we do not collect
We do not collect the content of what you want to talk about (there is none in the app), your contacts, your location, or advertising identifiers. We do not run third-party advertising, and we never sell your personal data.
How we use your information
Only to run the app and keep it working: creating and securing your account, connecting you with your partner, delivering your signals at the right time, and — if enabled — sending notifications. Under GDPR, our legal basis is the performance of our contract with you (providing the service you signed up for) and, for security and reliability, our legitimate interests.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and authentication, hosted on Amazon Web Services in [region, e.g. eu-central-1]. Acts as our data processor.
- Apple — for app delivery through the App Store, and, if you enable notifications, for delivering them via the Apple Push Notification service.
We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
What your partner sees
Nearer is a two-person app. The signals you send — the urgency and emotion you chose, and when you sent them — become visible to the one partner you are linked with, after the built-in delay. That sharing is the purpose of the app.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and signal data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account [from Settings / by emailing us], your profile and associated signals are removed from our active systems, save for anything we must retain briefly for security or legal reasons.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email [privacy@your-domain]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data transfers
Your data may be processed in [region / the United States]. Where data leaves the EU/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children
Nearer is intended for adults in relationships and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your country).
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including access controls enforced at the database level, so that one person can never act on another’s behalf. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we store deliberately minimal.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and, for material changes, let you know in the app.
